John B. Jakle has occupied the same home in Santa Monica for over 52 years,
and together with his wife Pat they raised three very special daughters. He has also been an attorney for over 52 years, practicing law in Santa Monica in the areas of probate, estate planning, trust administration, incapacity planning, Federal estate and gift tax, and property tax. About 13 years ago he went into partnership with Lisa Alexander, in the firm of Jakle & Alexander. Recently, Courtney Patton was added as a third partner, and the Firm is now Jakle, Alexander & Patton.
John completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Pomona College in
1967 and earned his Juris Doctor degree from UCLA in 1970. During his time at UCLA, he was a member of the Law Review and was appointed to the Order of the Coif. John’s commitment to education extends beyond his legal career, serving for years as a faculty member of the Executive Education Program at UCLA’s Graduate School of Management.
Over the years John has been actively involved professionally with the Santa
Monica Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Probate &
Trusts, Corporate and Tax Law Sections), and the American Bar Association
(Real Property, Probate & Trust Law and Taxation Sections).
Beyond his legal practice, John has been deeply involved in the Santa Monica
community. For over 30 years he was associated with the Santa Monica Boys
and Girls Club and served as chairperson and long-time member of the Board of Governors and was a director and former member of the Executive Board for the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, and on the Board of the Santa Monica Salvation Army. John’s dedication to his alma mater is evident through his past presidency of the Pomona College Alumni Association.
Outside of his professional pursuits, John is a lifelong passionate baseball fan
and after running for over 30 years his body said it was time to hang up the jogging shoes and for the last 25 plus years has instead been an avid practitioner of Iyengar yoga, while also dabbling (not very successfully) with golf. He has enjoyed especially the yearly trips with his family, siblings and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins to the Rickey Family Island in Northern Ontario, Canada.
